What an awesome week the Year 5 kids had at Camp Columba! They all got stuck in and got out of their comfort zones, giving everything they could a go. It was great to see so many of our students growing and developing their cooperation skills and building on their resilience.
We were all very tired coming home on Friday after an all in, action packed week of activities. Here's a few shots to give you an idea of what we got up to.
Here are a few examples of posters we created to explain the features we want to include when creating an explanation.
A huge "THANK YOU!" to the Blennerhassett family for allowing Pod 6 onto their beautiful property to experience an impressively wide range of flora and fauna as part of our Plants inquiry topic. Mother nature treated us to a beautiful Autumn day and it was an amazing learning experience for both the kids and the awesome parent helpers that helped us out as well. It was great to have such enthusiastic parents with us on the day and a big thanks to them all as well. Te Kakano experts Jo and Andrew were on hand to help us plant natives and explore the area around the nursery at the bottom of the farm. Have a look at the great photos of our Pod 6 team getting stuck into what will surely be a highlight of the year for many.
As part of our Plants Unit we looked at creating some planter boxes to house seedlings we are growing. We were able to plan and create a nice range of different styles of boxes and there were some great carpentry skills being learnt as well with this technology unit.
Some lucky Room 21 students had the chance to proactise some cooking skills last week. They whipped up some delicious looking smoothies and mowed down some tasty looking burgers. Keep up the culinary masterclass team!
